Every gaze leaves a mark. In Susanna and the Elder, Željko Đurović lets the old story return in fragments: a woman bathing, a man watching, a mirror that reflects more than it should. But here the elders multiply—one in a hat, one in stripes, one who might be the artist himself, holding a mask in his own hands.
The room tilts. Walls slide into walls. Desire becomes architecture, and architecture becomes a stage where everyone is both performer and witness.
This is the self-portrait the painter hides in plain sight: the watcher who knows he is being watched, the elder who has learned that seeing is its own kind of guilt, and its own kind of grace.
